There are changes in cognition throughout adulthood. There are three periods in adulthood that has changes that we recognize. Early adults (between 18 and 40: piaget said this is post-formal thought, you are not beginning to think systematically and logically, epistemic cognition, you are contemplating, gathering knowledge. Thinking about things: pragmatic thought thinking, there is a complexity of the cognitive affective interaction. We attach an affect to a piece of knowledge (attached to thoughts) As adults this is becoming much more complex. Not a lot of cognitive changed between early 20s and early 40s: as well as social and physiological changes. There are cognitive differences between these three phases of adulthood. Dualistic thinking: thinking about hings in at least two different ways. Relativistic thinking: related to moral thinking, its relative. Commitment within relativistic thinking: commitment to our thoughts and feelings. Challenges, opportunities to reflect, and peers all contribute to develop.
