Two dimensional plot parents are usually not permissive or restrictive, they are usually a combination (exist across a continuum) Result: socially incompetent, dependent (some may go on to commit suicide) or defiant, rebellious (these are the individuals that end up making a difference) Result: grow up with little direction, low achievement motivation, low goals, low in assertiveness , married very late, go to university but don"t make sacrifices needed to settle on a career. A lot of parenting conflicts between parents where one is like this and one is authoritarian. Results: successful, had challenges but they"ve met them are were successful, high self-esteem, most well adjusted: rejecting/neglecting low expectations, little support, cold parents who tend to have unwanted children. Result: kids = immature, dysfunctional, poor social and cognition skills, low school achievement. How to test what kind of parent someone is: observe in home, questionnaire.
