PSY290H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Frontal Lobe, Amygdala, Midbrain Tectum
Document Summary
The brain being 15 lbs may seem like a lot, but you always need to look at it from a relative standpoint. Whales can way tons upon tons, so having a 15 lbs brain is not that impressive. The central and peripheral nervous system: cns, spinal cord, brainstem, thalamus, cortex, pns, cranial nerves, spinal nerves, autonomic nervous system. Finding your way in the nervous system: fissures are major separations, such as the fissure between the right and left hemispheres of the human brain. Three ways of organizing the brain: cortical areas named by parts of the skull, cellular differences, five major divisions in embryonic development. Previous page: in the second image, you can see the stages of brain development before birth, as the tubes fill with csf. The lobes have multiple capabilities, but they are mainly associated with the above roles. Structures and functions of the cortex: left, logic, reasoning, language, right, spatial manipulation, music ability, emotional processing, facial recognition.
