PSY270H5 Lecture 4: PSY270 - Lecture 4
Document Summary
From the previous lecture: process facilitation (signal enhancement) by attention. Hit a button as soon as you see the dot! Faster at detecting target at cued location than neutral - process facilitation. Still a bit faster at detecting target at the cue location even though it is counterproductive - involuntary attentional capture. % tells you how likely that flashing box will contain the dot. Means dot will appear in the box 80% of the time. Can say people are really good at allocating their attention. The likelihood that a dot will be appearing in the same box as the flashing box is only 20% Paying attention to flashing box is counterproductive. More likely to not contain the dot. Found that still the valid cue was still faster for rt than neutral and that the invalid cue was still slower rt than for the neutral condition. Attention is automatically/involuntary allocated to something salient.
