Lecture 5: personality measures (see highlighted material in ch. 5/6, starting on pg 76) Assumes people are able and willing to report their personality accurately. Cannot be used with children below a certain age, inmates during a parole evaluation, or questions about sensitive issues. Like self-reports, they assume that informants are able and willing to provide accurate info. May have limited knowledge about some personality traits, especially those about internal states. Many studies have examined correlation between self-reports and informant reports. Self informant agreement is important to validate personality measures. These studies can also be used to determine the information that people use to rate their own other"s personality. 100 adults were videotaped while entering a room, sitting down and reading standard text. the participants than provided self reports of their personality. It is too low to assess one persons personality with high accuracy. Rock/heavy metal: openness country/pop: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness hip-hop/soul/funk: extraversion.
