PSY220H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Airborne Disease, Herd Mentality, Light Work
Document Summary
Social facilitation: the presence of others increases our abilities, crowding: the presence of many others. We are so affected by the situation around us: why are we aroused in the presence of others, we are aroused more: we perspire more. We are always on guard: evaluation apprehension: worried about what others think of us. We become less conscious, the more anonymous we get: driven by distraction. So much to pay attention that we cant pay attention to ourselves: mere presence- stutters stutter more in groups then alone. We laugh more when we are in a group. What is a group: two or more people who, for longer than a few moments, interact with and influence one another and perceive one another as us . I am in the group and that person is out. Group membership is something we work really hard for.
