Over first year, gradually attune to speech sounds of native language. Exposed 9 months old american infants to mandarin chinese speaker during 12 lab visits (5 hours exposure: live interaction (stories, games, audio-video recording of mandarin chinese speakers, audio recording of mandarin chinese speakers. Through live exposure, could distinguish chinese sounds. In audio visual and just audio did not allow children to retain that sensitivity. Goal; see if children could retain this skill with interaction.
