Document Summary
Things that happen in childhood can have an effect later on. He used to say that children had a lot of id. The mind is like a steam engine: too much repression could make the mind blow. Psychosomatic illness: you feel physical symptoms but nothing is wrong. Free association: what is the 1st word you think of when you hear this word? . Dream journal: write a paragraph or 2, present tense. Opposites: they are equal in a dream. What you see in your dream is the opposite of what is bothering you. Condensation: a symbol is a combination of 2 or more. Literal phrases: your unconscious takes a phrase from your conscious and literally translates it into a dream. E. g. driving me up the wall = driving you crazy. But you see your boss literally driving you up the wall. Sounds like: single word sounds like 2 words. E. g. dream in a house, no elevator, just stairs.
