Document Summary

When we talk about propensity we say that something has a certain tendency to act a certain way given a certain triggering condition : involves traits, triggers and absence of interfering. Water solubility: behavior = dissolving" trigger = water immersion. Fitness: behavior = having traits which condition its production of offspring; trigger = given environment. Water solubility = disposition to dissolve when immersed in water. Probabilistic water solubility = disposition to dissolve with a certain probability. Casual basis for water solubility = certain ionic structure is needed (doesn"t have to be the same or different from the water soluble substance) Mb: fitness of an organism explains its success at survival and reproduction the same way solubility explains the fact that it has dissolved in a particular liquid. Does solubility explain dissolving: no: this does. If x is in water it will dissolve (i. e: if x is water-soluble) then when x is immersed in water, it will dissolve.
