Elecions are run by an independent, non-parisan agency of parliament called elecions canada. What are they for: choosing representaives, choosing governments, debaing ideas and policy preferences. Have to be at least 36 days in length. Drop the writ = start electoral campaign: puts in moion the legal apparatus on rules of elecions. When we vote, we vote for members of parliament, not party of prime minister: local representaives, are the building blocks of canadas electoral system, indirect process. Typically party that has the most seats = wins government: commanding the house of commons. All agree with the policies and have similar ideas for government.
