They are not good friends, they just know of each other: socrates had been charged by 3 young men for not believing in the official gods of athens and corrupting the young, euthyphro is prosecuting his father for the murder of a murderer, they start a discussion of piety (cid:224)what the gods do love, impiety (cid:224) what the god"s don"t like, socrates questions euthyphro about whether all the gods agree with one another, and that they all have the same concept of good and bad, what they do and don"t love, socrates" point is, is that he wants to think through this issue, how do we know what the gods love and hate when they all have different desires, different concepts of love and hate, socrates is saying that if you claim to know what you know, can you prove that you actually do know something, euthyphro is always jumping to another source, another authority.
