Document Summary

Ggr112 lecture 15 weathering, karst landscapes and. Is a sub-discipline of geography concerned with the origin, evoluion and spaial distribuion of landforms. Landforms are the products of internal and external process (endogenic/exogenic: endogenic builds, exogenic destroys or modiies. Denudaion all exogenic process that work to reduce landscape. Weathering refers to process that physically or chemically alter rock at or near the surface. Erosion refers to translocaion of weathered materials by wind, water or ice, driven by gravity and solar energy. Karst topography is the product of limestone dissolving: limestone comes from shells and corrals, coninental driting causes land to fold thus enabling more limestone to appear. Climate: precipitaion, temperature, length of thaw season. Joints are fractures or separaions in rock. These joints increase the surface areas of rock exposed to both physical and chemical weathering. Physical weathering dominates in drier and cooler climates. Chemical weathering dominates in weter and warm climates. Orientaion controls slope exposure to sun, wind and precipitaion.
