She has 14 years experience as a forensic scientist. Investigative aid - generally the police"s job but sometimes it"s necessary for the forensic scientists to go to the scene. Public service - cfs is owned by the government. Weapons- guns, knives, weapons of convenience (homemade and prison made) Screen item for body fluids (biologists will do the testing) Examine items for body fluids - blood, saliva, semen. Process/sample items for dna (doesn"t have to be body fluids, most aren"t) Process bone samples (when no tissue is available) Visual test- external exam, try to find any fluids, blood is easier because of the colour. Alternative light source- makes it easier to identify semen and saliva because of the transparency. Presumptive chemical test- kastle meyer test: methanol, phenolphthain, hydrogen peroxide. Hemoglobin in blood reacts and shows a reddish colour, can"t be 100% valid because it"s presumptive but it helps. To determine if it"s human blood another test is used.
