FSC239Y5 Lecture 7: Main topic- Foot wear and other impression evidence
Document Summary
Main topic- foot wear and other impression evidence. Foot wear evidence - transfer of class and individual characteristics from foot wear to surface. Importance of context: e. g. location of impression. Identity/ eliminate footwear: presence at scene = participation in crime. Context establishes significance: confirms alibi, determining brand sand size, determine number of perpetrators, association with evidence and other. Steps of evidence processing scenes: locate footwear evidence, requires deliberate evidence and systematic removal. Chemical development: partial impressions often found, document evidence, scene and examination quality photographs, recover evidence, produce known impressions and compare with scene impressions. *useful for lifting on many services: simple premise: opposite charges attract, surface positive, dust particles negative. Esld creates a more concentrated charge on lifting medium: greatest charge on film attracts dust on direct surface, residual positive/ negative charges keep print in place on film. Useable on wide range of surfaces (very useful- carpet) Impressions may not initially be visible to naked eye.
