Document Summary

Can be classified in a variety of ways: Primary scene - where original act occurred secondary/tertiary etc. scenes. Crime scene isn"t static, boundaries can be redefined. Can start large, and then narrows down (or vice versa) as scene is better understood. Establish links: victim, suspect, scene, object (hair fibres, other linkages) Context is important, what"s found where, how it"s recovered. Crime scene analysis is destructive to nature, we"re changing the scene. Generate leads - discover more information, other crime scenes, weapons. Understanding the evidence itself - find context. Understand the evidence (eg. why human bones are found in woods) Understanding behaviour - blood splatter, position of victim, was there a struggle, sequence of blood stain splatters, finger/footprints, behaviour of movement, characteristics of ground, were they buried by one person or two people. Corroborating witness statements - verify statements from witnesses. Id suspects - generate leads to see who committed the act.
