Document Summary

Another smaller planet collided with earth and nearly destroyed it. Lecture 2: formation and structure of the earth. Describe the formation of the solar system, including the sun and orbiting planets. 13. 7 billion years ago everything was compressed into a tiny dense point which the exploded in a big bang and has been expanding ever since. Lumps of different sizes, due to different densities began to fly out of the point. Hydrogen and helium was also distributed and dense concentrations of these elements formed stars. Explain the process which shaped the earth into an internally layered sphere. One planetesimal grew larger and sucked in the surrounding lumps and debris with its gravity. This is why earth has a very dense centre, and gradually it becomes less dense as it moves to its outer layer which has the least dense elements which is the atmosphere.
