Document Summary

Rising sea levels will affect islands and coastal zones. As glaciers, land ice melt, more water flows to the ocean. As the ocean warms, the water expands. There are many probable and possible impacts of global climatic change (continued) Socioeconomic impacts: food security and agriculture, water resources, forest and soil resources, health, economy. The way each of us in different parts of the world experiences these impacts will vary a lot. However, not all predicted consequences are bad. Increased carbon dioxide fertilizing effect on some plants (maybe?) More rainfall in some arid regions (but less rainfall in others; potential for flood and drought) Warmer winters in some areas (but people who are vulnerable to cold are also vulnerable to extreme heat) Longer growing season in some cold regions (but there may be no arable soil in those areas) Earth"s climate changes naturally on a variety of time scales, as a result of internal forcing (greenhouse effect) and external forcing.
