Ecosystem concept is a formalized science that began in the beginning of the 20th century. We made observations about our environment and about how organisms interact way earlier than that though. George tansley says that we cannot separate organisms from their special environment with which they form one physical system the systems are the basic units of nature . People tend to see the individual organisms in nature instead of broadening their perspective. It integrates this idea of systems thinking and it"s an approach as to how you think of an area. It"s a way of looking at organisms and their interactions with the environment as an integrated system. Focuses on functions, processes, fluxes (energy, nutrients), biogeochemical cycles, etc.
