The beare road landfill: making good use of old garbage: the beare road pit received municipal (public) garbage from toronto. Restoration of the landscape was later on undertaken in 1983. They began to collect the methane-rich gas being generated by decomposing garbage. The beare road pit today has become a green space providing landfill-gas-to-electricity (lfgte). Plastic bags: it takes one second to produce a plastic bag, 20 minutes in use: plastic bags take 400 to 600 years to break down, amount of packaging has increases dramatically, waste is reducible based on consumer decisions. The source and type of waste determine how it must be managed: municipal solid waste: non-liquid waste from homes, institutions, and small businesses. Waste disposal is regulated by three levels of government in canada: municipal, provincial and federal government: municipal (involved in collection of waste): collection, diversion and disposal of solid waste.
