Document Summary
What"s in the air: our air mainly contains nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21%) It also contains trace gases: argon, water vapour (tend to vary a lot as they are very fixed, carbon dioxide (tend to vary a lot as they are very fixed, methane, nitrous oxide, ozone etc. Air pollutants: gases and particulate material added to the atmosphere: air pollution is the sum total of gases and matter that are added to the atmosphere, air pollutants can affect climate, harm people and ecosystems. Outdoor (ambient) air pollution: has decreased in recent decades due to government policy and improved technologies in developed countries, developing countries and urban areas still have significant problems. Natural sources of air pollution: air pollution can come from natural sources: volcanoes, trees, forest fires . Carbon monoxide: can be damaging to human health like ozone. Includes the burning of fossil fuels and forest fires. Lasts as long as 2 months- fairly persistent.
