Document Summary

Three types of action can be taken in response to global climate change (in order to prevent climate change from growing). Abatement and mitigation- (cutting down on production of green houses: adaption to changes, deliberate intervention ( geoengineering ) Abatement and mitigation: cut down emissions, energy efficiency (fuel efficiency cars, carbon tax, emissions trading, renewable energy sources, farm practices to protect soil integrity, preventing deforestation (the cutting down of trees for commercial use) Adaptation to changes: develop new technologies & infrastructure to ensure security of food and water supplies, e. g. seawalls; gm (genetically modified) heat-resistant crops, etc. We can modify corn for example, to become more resistant and be able to survive climatic temperature. Involves deliberate, large-scale intervention in climate systems: solar radiation management (srm) or solar geoengineering- managing solar radiation, carbon dioxide removal (cdr) or carbon geoengineering. - removal of carbon dioxide.
