Document Summary

In many ways, the flint water crisis is a fine example of how a system designed to contribute to society is failing that very society. Out of the way, not wealthy, doesn"t get attention from the government. The peninsula where flint sits is where we have 90% of the world"s available freshwater. Very near lake huron, so it got clean drinking water for a long time. In the state of michigan, we passed a series of laws allowing the state to take over the city if it wasn"t doing well. The state took over flint and tried to use it as the place to put the problems they didn"t want to do with. They decided to cut corners to save money there. The state directed the city of flint to come off of detroit water, stop using huron water, and take water from the flint river. Decent water source, can be treated but treatment plan is expensive.
