Breadth: genre definition can be narrowly or broadly constructed. The broader a genre is, the less useful it is: generally, focused genres have more analytical value e. g. television is a genre, but a very vague one. Producer/consumer relationship: producer and audience relationship important in defining dynamics of genre. 19/09/2016: one-to-many (mass) vs. decentralized and interactive (public) relationships some genres more mass-media oriented, some more local and small-scale. Interactivity to keep the audience: consuming comics. Creators create worlds and characters, define spaces in great detail, but details lead to engagement. Immediate feedback usually absent, although web comics change that through personal engagement.
