In canada, five corporations own most media(rogers, bell, telus, quebecor. News values: novelty, drama, spectacle, major consequences. Long term systemic problems and conditions require event . Fundamental power imbalance: movements need media more than the other way around. A movement that does not make it into the media is non existent . But not all movements seek media attention . Seeking to reach as many people as possible. Seeking profound impact on a small scale. E. g. women"s 1960s/70s consciousness-raising groups(in kitchens etc) Placing emphasis an a specific aspect or angle of an issue. Draw attention to some aspect and away from others.
