Sometimes people think things are true because everyone believes it is true. The same thing can have different meaning to different people. These differences exists because of social agreement. Maybe they see a lot of likes, so they feel like they better like it. We can make guesses, but there is no intrinsic value. How much do you agree with the following statement: epistemology is a really fun topic! . Or people are influenced by those who raise their hands. Numbers are often thought of being hard or objective -- assumes a false dichotomy. Numbers need to be placed on context. People who are not comfortable about telling their age might prefer saying their birth year. They want to know how often you use your phone. Implication: logged behaviour fits well with the logic of numbers. Good research is possible when measures match logic of numbers. Good research considers context and works to reduce misunderstanding & misinterpretation.
