Document Summary
Tactile technology creates moving tactile sensations on the body. Haptics are feedback mechanisms that communicate information via the skin and dermis. They create an environment that immerses the user in a world of tactile stimulation. Technology can replicate a variety of real world sensory experiences. Users favor guis (graphical user interfaces) because sometimes failed gesture attempts discourage the learners, making them less likely to continue learning. Also, learning gestural interaction takes a lot of time and effort not worth it. Experimental design using an app as a teaching tool gesture play: Quantitative evaluation: gesture play and video demonstrations are equally efficient. Qualitative evaluation: users prefer gesture play over video demonstrations. Affective computing: previously fun learning experiences may lead users to spend more time in an experience and increase the learning. Operant conditioning: an operant response is a behavior that is modifiable (increased or decreased likelihood) by its consequences.
