Picture superiority effect pictures can be more memorable than their verbal counterparts. Symbols, pictograms, and icons are widely used components of user interfaces (for navigation, status indication, function invocation(help you preform certain function)) Pictograms: images that represent a word; symbolic representation of symbol or idea. Icons: graphic on a visual display terminal represent both functions (actions) and objects on the computer. Well designed icons and symbols can have advantages over commands and labels. Easier & faster to learn when the size of the symbol is small. Icons are time sensitive, culturally relevant, and poorly designed icons are problematic.
