Characteristics for successful domestication: species must be at the bottom of the food chain, fast growth rate-mature early, no elaborate courtship ritual, organized social structure with dominance hierarchy. Characteristics of domesticated animals: variability, social behaviour, contexts in which they occur, tolerance of close confinement. Experimental domestication: animals in anthropogenic environments face strong selection on behaviour seen across classes, stronger the anthropogenic environment, the faster the change.
