ANT338H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Repeated Measures Design, Stabilizing Selection, Lean Body Mass
Document Summary
Ant338 lecture 3: reference and reporting standards. Reference and reporting standards a critical perspective on anthropometry. Who growth standard 2006: difference between a growth reference and a growth standard, growth standard is prescriptive, problem: notion of a norm or desirable target - value judgment. Who growth reference 2007: developed from existing us studies. Reporting standards: body mass index (bmi: asses bmi for age with a reference sample, using ha and wa percentiles and z-scores. In adults there are absolute cut-offs for bmi. Reporting standards for adults: prevalence of underweight, overweight and obesity are defined at the % of adults with bmi values in certain ranges. Inter and intra observer error: differences in measurement accuracy are a source of error in anthropometric measurement, these are accounted for and reported in anthropometric studies. Inter-observer error: the amount of variation b/w the results obtained by 2 or more observes examining the same material.
