"forensic method: systematic approach to documenting, collecting, interpreting and presenting evidence for presentation in court of law. Crime scene: many types of crime scenes, all scenes are different, can be classified in a variety of ways, location of offense, size, type of crime, a crime scene is not static, boundaries can be redefined. Importance of crime scene: establish links: victim, suspect, scene, object, generate leads, understanding the evidence itself, understanding behaviour, corroborating witness statements, scenes approached as if only opportunity to preserve and recover clues. Locard"s principle: every contact leaves a trace, by leaving something behind, by taking something away, both, we use these to make connections. Other important terms: chain of custody, breaks in the chain, one break in the chain can effect everything. "fruit of the poisonous tree: evidence admissibility, expert witness.
