ANT210H5 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Kensington Runestone, Cultural Anthropology, Civilization
Document Summary
Not much emphasis on specific dates (i. e. when is cahokia found?) One of the ambiguous cases; but generally inferred as not real. Many believes that makes absolutely no sense finding scandinavian artifacts in minnesota. But there is also no forensic evidence to disprove at the same time. Geological evidence since 2006 can"t be used to confirm/disconfirm the idea. Prof believes that these will not seem to change much even after kr gets to be proven false - The ca definition (on the ppt slide) is exactly the same with canadian def, but canadian archeology uses term "ancestry" instead of "race". The scandinavian artifact (kr) was found by a person of scandinavian descent. Only 10% of ppl in minnesota thought kr was a hoax. In other words, 90% viewed it as real. Scandinavian (newly immigrated) community in minnesota, was a small, minority group. There were some issues of their acceptance and minnesota ppl who had came before.
