Chapter 1: anthropology and the study of culture. Anthropology is the study of humanity, including its prehistoric origins and contemporary human diversity. Compared with other disciplines that study humanity (such as history, psychology, economics, political science and sociology) anthropology is more boarders in scope. Anthropologists take a broad approach to understanding the many different aspects of human experience. Study humanity through time, cultivation, variation and diversity. The 4 fields of anthropology: archaeology or prehistory. It"s the study of past human cultures through their material remains. Prehistoric archaeology: study culture before written records. Historical archaeology: deals with human past in societies that have written documents. Another set of specialities within archaeology is based on the context in which archaeology takes place. Underwater archaeology is the study of submerged archaeological sites. These sites may be form either prehistoric or historic sites. For ex: the early human settlement in parts of. Europe, which were located near lakes, which is now submerged.
