Herodotus is more like the first secular historian. A big part of his research was travel, aka going and finding out things for yourself. First attempt in western civilization to make accounts of history. Provided first lengthy account of the barbarian peoples. The barbarians were known as the people who were not greek. Herodotus basically documented the ionian revolution during the reign of the persian empire. He described the barbarian peoples and described the civilized societies as well. He described parts of india, arabia and egypt. He did much travelling for his work. It"s speculated that his main work was as a merchant. He drew heavily on oral historical accounts. Reconstructed the history of the persian wars through interviews.
