Document Summary

It can be good to be well connected, but this interconnectedness may allow certain unwanted flows. For this spread to occur, two nodes must be connected through propinquity. Thanks to air travel, diseases can be brought to any city in just a matter of hours. Before the advent of planes, there was a barrier regarding the spread of diseases. However, distances have become shorter and time has become more compressed. The dissemination of disease occurs through these hubs which connects distant things to each other: when humans were hunter-gatherers, they were never in one place for very long and their settlements were not very large. These things prevented the transmission of viruses, to a certain extent. However, with the emergence of agricultural life, it tied people to land. The interconnectivity between humans and things like animals and crops emerged. Once they began to live with non-human entities, things could flow between them.
