Religion: various questions about religious rituals related to death and how beliefs influence this. Anthropology: looks at cultural rituals, comparative perspective to understand diff cultures. Interested in asking questions on how things have changed over time, how death is historically constructed. Psychology: 5 stages of dealing with the end of life; denial, anger, bargain, acceptance, how people adjust to death; kids, adults, seniors etc. How death is represented and responded to. Then we use it in a different context like i killed that exam. More than 60% of canadians die in hospitals even though the majority would prefer to die at home. More than 80% of deaths are slow deaths , not unexpected or sudden. Only approximately 30% of canadian use palliative care services when they are near death. Keep you alive with the help of technology. Medicalization: biology is placed as more important over other aspects of life. Impairments in biology can be cure through this term.
