Weber does not consider rational: emotion-oriented action, traditional action. Behaviour of women in the example of violent behaviour discussed in class. It is not possible to understand the whole width of their actions, because it does not occur rationally. Sociologists understand rational reactions (good + value oriented). We want to understand why, for example, a man would want to chop the wood. Is it for winter, or to reduce tension with wife, or for some other reason. If we understand a person"s motive, and we must also be sure that the motive(s) that we attribute are correct. One can only understand good oriented or value oriented action = rational action. A person committed society where magic prevails, might use magic to heal someone, which is seen by weber as magical rational action. Rational point of view of the society: maybe there are different magical ways to heal , so the witch doctor has to choose.
