The division of labor produces a new type of solidarity in society- organic solidarity ( with provide the new glue for society to keep them together) Two types of social solidarity: mechanical solidarity and organic solidarity. Smaller scale societies-the division of labor is less specialized/differentiated. May be organized along traditional gender lines. People are very similar to each other. Members of the society share the same values, based on common tasks and common life situations and experiences. Most of them share the same moral values and follow the rules of the group: ex. Organic solidarity characterizes societies with a highly developed/functionally diversified division of labor. Organic solidarity presupposes difference between individuals-less in common.
