How the capitalist mode of production operates and is reproduced. Capitalism is specific and has not been around forever. Marx is trying to figure out this new thing. Capitalism is a dynamic and unstable system (in such a short period of time) The philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways, the point is to change it. Humans have to produce out own means of subsistence and are thus indirectly our own material/social life.
