Master and slave dislectic (lordship and bondsman) Idea of difference forms and structure the idea of self. Recognition of self as subject, distinct/separate from the self as perceived object/thing. Two opposing moments/movements is the dialectic of self-consciousness. 1- the moment when the self and the other come together, which makes self0consciousness/recognition possible. 2- the mement of difference arising when one is conscious of the otherness in the relationship/dialectic. This moment of recognition of otherness is key for bringing about change in the relationship. This tension between selves and others, between mutual identification and estrangemnets/alienation, plays out in the fields of social relations. Dubois/fanon and race, marc and class, simone du beauvoir and gender. The realization of self-consciousness= a struggle for recognition between two individuals bounds to one another as unequal"s in a relationship of dependence. One person is the lord and the one is the bondsman (master/slave)
