The carbon dioxide we put out today will alter the climate for millennia. Humans have become a major geologic force. For a geologist, the idea of dou(cid:271)li(cid:374)g the at(cid:373)osphere(cid:859)s (cid:272)ar(cid:271)o(cid:374) dio(cid:454)ide (cid:272)o(cid:374)(cid:272)e(cid:374)tratio(cid:374) is outright terrifying. The homer simpson philosophy: it was like that when i got here. The capitalist/industrialist philosophy: market forces will right the situation. Marxist perspective: the nature of capitalism leads to social inequality and environmental degradation.
