We are sitting attentively in this lecture because teachers have been telling us to do so for like 14 years of education. Attention to how the inequities of socialization mask the issue of the structural barriers faced by women. Giving little girls dolls and boys tools then we are reinforcing limits on what they can grow up to become. Individuals actively participate in their own socialization. Its not just about learning from older/authoritative people, we must participate actively. Groups or social contexts in which signi cant socialization occurs.
