Structured interview - all the respondents are asked exactly the same quesions in the same order with the aid of a formal interview schedule. Interview schedule: a formal list of quesions that the interviewer must follow in detail. o. The quesions must be asked in the order given. Quesionnaire: a list of writen quesions that the respondent answers; open or closed. Used because they produce standardizaion in asking quesions and recording answers. Variaion should be atributable to the characterisic being measured, not the interview process. Variaion related to the interviewer or the interviewing process is variability due to error. Variaion due to error can come from: o o. Intra-interviewer variability - interviewer not consistent in asking quesions or recording answers. Usually one interviewer is designated for a research project. Reduces the chance of variaion due to error on the part of the interviewer/interview process.
