We need an assessment to determine outliers / abnormalities based on research. In psychpathology, you need to do an assessment in order to give a diagnosis. Some clinicians only diagnose if insurance companies want it, otherwise they work with whatever the client brings to the table and they don"t diagnose. A good assessment involves biological and psychological components. Good assessment tools should be both reliable (consistent) and valid (measuring what they are intended to measure) Valid = measures what you are looking for. Overall, we need assessment as well as good clinical judgment. The same results occur more than once for the same person. There are 2 forms of the test (e. g. : change the wording of the survey questions in a functionally equivalent form; e. g. : changing the order of the questions) and scores are correlated with one another. A measure based on the correlations between different items on the same test.
