Important to be pervasive across situations ie. there are always personalities that people don"t like doesn"t mean its a disorder. Personality disorders: are an accumulation of clusters of traits. Non-problematic (a trait occurs situationally) vs problematic (universal, frequently etc) This categorization between nonproblematic vs problematic - dependent on social norms. Bad rep - maybe because it"s poorly understood. Look at this more as patter of thinking and emotions. Have developed because of somebody"s" life experiences. Need to exhibit 4 or more of these symptoms. ** need show these across situations and across time for all disorders. 5 or more across time and sitautions. Comorbididty - much more prevelent - gene environtment. Limited - many of these disorders are poorly understood. What treatment of bpd has the largest evidence bae.
