Production is more impaired than comprehension: lexicon and words are impaired, production vocabulary; due to changes in articulatory structure, delayed across all early steps: babbling, production of first word (24 months) But, pragmatics intact, mostly below but sometimes exceeds typically developing children (e. g. , bouts) Not delayed due to being overtly social. Thus, language is not one underlying ability and dissociates from cognition (both higher and lower). **delayed development is comparing the timing and their chronological age and their mental age. Affects boys more then girls; due to x chromosome. Delayed language development, poor motor skills by articulation errors.
