Increased inflammation after sex (lots of sex) can create a hospitable environment for bacteria. Cranberry makes the inside of the bladder less hospitable to infection. Men have a longer urethra, and because of this have a lower chance of establishment. Similar prevention methods to yeast infections: avoid sleeping in underwear, wear pads as a little as possible, avoid harsh soaps. Women in the 1950s would use lysol to obtain an abortion, this could be fatal to the mother. Some correlation between circumcision and hiv transmission, but some studies show no correlation. Often the correlation has to do with the place that the study was conducted. In areas where health care is lax and water for hygiene is unavailable, this can make a difference in transmission rates.
