Gender is the state of being male or female. It is typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones. Gender refers to the socially constructed roles, behaviours, activities, and attributes that a given society considers appropriate for men and women. Sex refers to the biological and physiological characteristics that de ne men and women. Money, 1995: all those things that a person says or does to disclose him or herself as having the status of boy or man, girl or woman, respectively. Nally, the person"s own replies to direct inquiry. Crawford, 2004: a classi cation system that in uences access to power and resources and shapes the relations among women and men. All known human societies make social distinction based on gender. Based on who makes the decisions, who in uences who, who decides how society is shaped and formed, who takes care of the children, and who goes to work.
