Careers are seen as life paths specific job/task oriented and growth within a field. Men: more likely to pursue a uninterrupted full time career. Women: more likely to have a discontinuous path due to family interruptions, or the need to take on only part-time employment. If you ask both female and male students in high-school they will have similar lofty goals. Boys and girls have equally high career aspirations somewhat mediated by ses with a larger impact of females. 65% of part-time employees are female (remaining 45% being men) which means less pay and less advancement stay at home mom is a legitimate career but has no vacation time, benefits, job security, pay, or retirement savings. Women"s career goals are expected to incorporate childrearing. Time-blind when a working parent resents their spouse and children for demanding time, including women in high prestige or demanding jobs. High school students have similar career aspirations across ethnic groups.
