PSY 3121 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Garry Bushell, Pituitary Gland, Hypothalamus
Document Summary
The endocrine system and steroid hormones: endocrine glands secrete hormones and are important to the development of the sexes. Releasing hormones are produced by the hypothalamus to stimulate the pituitary gland which produces tropic hormones to stimulate the gonads (which eventually develop to the ovaries and testes). Hypothalamus: in charge of things, relating signals which are picked up by the pituitary or other glands. In ever body process there are individual variations of development, therefor syndromes and disorders are a thing. The gonads secrete steroidal hormones which related to reproductive functioning: androgens: most common is testosterone, estrogens: most common is estradiol, progestins: most common is progesterone. Males and females produce all three of these hormones but in different quantities to produce different results in different genders. 2. the genetic stage where sex chromosomes are paired the gondola stage where hormones influence the development of gondolas and eventually reproductive organs the hormonal stage during prenatal and puberty stages of development.
