PSY 2174 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Simple Random Sample, Nonprobability Sampling, Cluster Sampling
Document Summary
Going to be some human characteristic that you think depends on something else (affected by something else) The characteristic of the person that you think depends on some other factor; you are then going to expose them to this factor; then measure the response. Levels of cuteness (would have to opertaionalize how this is being done) Someone who is a player in the experiment. Seems like they"re a subject in the experiment. You can tell (knowable) probability of one person from this population can be a subject in the sample. Maximize likeilhood that the sample willl be representative. Demographics, socioeconomic status, age, personality, intelligence, self esteem. If not than the sample is different than the population then we can"t make the assumption that it is the same. A sample is not representative of the population. Self selection bias - can"t generalize in an online/magazine survey, because people who choose to participate in those studies already .
